SP Gerards writes at the crossroads of historical fiction, adventure thriller, and gothic storytelling. His work explores movement, conflict, and the quiet forces that test human endurance, blending psychological depth with the atmospheric detail of frontier life, colonial histories, and the landscapes that shape the people who inhabit them.
Gerards is the creator of The Tides Cycle, an expansive historical saga following the Hawthorne family across continents and generations. The journey begins with Jandarri – The Last Walkabout, a completed introductory novella offered free to readers. It opens the world of the series, a story where isolation, loyalty, and the shadows of the past collide.
He is currently writing Tides of Silence, the first full-length novel in the cycle. This instalment deepens the undertones of the series, drawing readers into a world marked by moral crossroads, buried truths, and a family fractured by loss. Further books in the cycle will continue to expand the world, its characters, and the long consequences of silence.
Gerards’ writing is grounded in lived experience. Having spent his life across Southern Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, he draws on service, displacement, and resilience to bring authenticity and emotional weight to his fiction. These influences give his work a strong sense of place and a deep understanding of the human tensions that define ordinary lives in extraordinary times.
He now lives with his family in Barcaldine, Central West Queensland, where he continues to write the next instalments of The Tides Cycle and companion stories that enrich the world and its characters.
Readers can start The Tides Cycle with Jandarri – The Last Walkabout, available free to those who join the author’s mailing list.
